What Matters Most
Back to writing.
Our son, Micah, was born on February 18th at 11:52pm. Fast forward 47 days and we are finding our groove as a family of four. It’s truly been the best.
Through these first few weeks of Micah’s life, I’ve pushed off certain parts of my routine such as running religiously, writing, and making regular phone calls to loved ones. Change, even when it’s the addition of a healthy child, can be certainly be challenging.
This past week, I was in a rut for a few days which is rather uncommon. My “ruts” usually last 6-12 hours, but I was under the weather, tired, and stressed. Then, I went to run an errand with our 2-year-old and I took Andrea’s mirror off the side of her car while backing out of the garage. Dumb, expensive, mistake.
Andrea heard the collision from inside, came running to the garage, and found me upset with myself. I told her what happened and she simply said “You and Tate are okay. The mirror can be fixed.” There wasn’t a sliver of disappointment or anger from her. I certainly would’ve been upset with her if she took the mirror off my truck, but she simply moved past it.
Andrea’s reaction gave me a push out of my rut and I spent a few days zooming out, and trying to chill out. Someday, when my child takes a mirror off a car backing out of the garage, I hope to handle it like Andrea did.
“It’s just a mirror.”
